Employment

The firm advises both employers and employees on the full range of contentious and advisory employment matters arising under Cypriot law. The relevant team comprises around 5 lawyers. It is headed by the firm’s Partners, Mrs. Cleo Polyviou, Mr. Levon Arakelian and Mr. Christoforos Iosif.

On the litigation side, the firm combines substantive expertise with the ability to draw on its wider litigation capability. The team handles actions arising from the termination of employment relationships, such as wrongful dismissal claims, redundancy disputes and voluntary retirements. Members of the team appear before both the Industrial Disputes Tribunal and the District Courts, and deal with issues pertaining to settlement, enforcement, appeals and the like.

On the advisory side, the firm assists clients in designing and implementing voluntary retirement schemes, in carrying out employee transfers between employers and in handling internal investigations and disciplinary proceedings. More generally, the team can undertake the review and/or drafting (as applicable) of employment agreements, staff handbooks, non-compete and confidentiality provisions, and workplace policies.

Where employment disputes involve fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, or misuse of confidential information, the employment team works alongside the firm's banking litigation team. Where employment decisions give rise to administrative challenges or regulatory fines, the employment team works alongside the firm's constitutional and administrative law team. This integrated approach reflects the culture of the firm itself, where lawyers practise across connected disciplines and are accustomed to working across practice boundaries.
