Yianna Papathoma

Yianna has extensive experience advising on a broad range of business-related matters.

Since joining the Firm in the second half of 2025, Yianna has played a key role in a number of significant transactions and projects, including the transfer of banking business between two Cypriot banks, the acquisition of insurance companies by Cypriot and Greek banking groups, the reorganisation of insurance companies, the sale of bulk loan portfolios, and the transfer of businesses and assets between commercial entities. She also regularly advises clients on banking, finance, corporate, commercial, employment, regulatory and compliance matters.

Yianna was previously employed as in-house legal advisor for over 15 years for the two largest banks in Cyprus and their groups, with international presence and supervised at European Central Bank level, where she had high-profile duties and responsibilities. Before that she was employed as legal advisor for the leading Cypriot provider of telephony, internet, pay TV, network infrastructure and satellite services, and as legal advisor for the leading cruise and travel services provider in Cyprus, both of which are active in Cyprus and abroad.

In her previous roles, she handled numerous large-scale and complex projects many of which were billion-worth and involved substantial cross-border elements. Her experience includes acting as legal lead in relation to:

the review and implementation of legislation and government schemes affecting credit institutions, as well as the procedures relating to the acquisition of immovable property in Cyprus;

the comprehensive review and redrafting of a bank’s contractual documentation;

the implementation of major digital transformation initiatives;

a landmark billion-worth restructuring project involving the principal creditors of a bank;

the first billion-euro sale of a bulk portfolio of non-performing loans by a Cypriot bank; and

employment law matters across diverse groups of companies.

Yianna combines in-depth legal knowledge with extensive in-house and transactional experience, enabling her to provide practical, commercially focused advice on complex business and regulatory matters.
